A VINEYARD IN ONE SINGLE PIECE
Disznókő is one of the only estates in the Tokaj wine region to be one single tract of land. 112 hectares (277 acres) of vines set in around 150 hectares (370 acres) in the municipality of Mezőzombor, inside the regional appellation Mád - Mezőzombor. Moreover, this is one of the few Tokaj wineries set in its vineyard. And every Disznókő wine comes from this vineyard.
As a consequence, we have daily contact with the vineyard and a high level of responsiveness. We have thus gained in-depth knowledge of all our plots. The grapes are all vinified separately giving us an intimate understanding of the estate. This enables us to bring out the best from our grapes to ensure phenomenal wines. Our quest for purity has driven us to craft wines from small individual parcels too in order to highlight their individual character (Kapi Vineyard).
The Disznókő vineyard is made of several sites (crus or « dűlő » in Hungarian) located in the south and west hillsides of three small volcanic hills ranging from 200 to 230 meters. The south-facing sloping sites come one after the other: Illésházy, Kapi, Lajos and Hangács. The Dorgó vineyard is a large plot with a south-west and west aspect. The characteristics (mother rock, the soils, microclimate) are different for each site and every cru will bring a unique character to the wine. The wines of Disznókő are usually a blend of these crus, but we also make single-vineyard wines Dorgó and Kapi with grapes that come exclusively from those plots.
