A DISZNÓKŐ ÚJJÁSZÜLETÉSE – MÁR 20 ÉVE!


On Monday 26th November 2012 Disznókő celebrated 20 years since the renaissance of the estate in 1992. A tasting for 100 guests of Aszú wines from each of the 20 vintages. From the very first vintage, 1992, to the most recent Aszú barrel samples (2011, 2010), including Disznókő classics such as the 6 puttonyos 1999, the Kapi 6 puttonyos 2005 and the 6 puttonyos 1993 – still fresh and fruity. A magazine editor recounted “The 6 puttonyos 1993 was the first Disznókő Aszú that ‘amazed me’, so naturally I tried it again this time. It has developed into a wonderful wine that I think will still be enjoyable in another twenty years’ time.” 

 

Guests remarked on the “unique event”. As one put it, “Even as a winemaker this kind of experience is extremely rare.” Deserved praise for this unique flight of Aszús. Each vintage was poured by a member of the Disznókő team – most pouring the year in which they joined the company. The whole team had journeyed to Budapest to join the sales director and manager; the tractor drivers, vineyard workers and cellar men, the cellar mistress, bottling manager and production director, accountants, wine boutique manager and, of course, the director. Several visitors noted how much they enjoyed meeting the people behind the wines. So different from unconnected hostesses at so many prestigious events!

 

So, 2012 marks the 20th anniversary of one of the leading winemakers in Tokaj. Since its foundation by  AXA Millésimes in 1992, Disznókő has consistently been at the forefront of the renaissance of the legendary Tokaji wines. One of the five large Tokaj wineries created during the privatisation that followed the change in political system, it is among the few that still have the same owners. Indeed many of the key positions are held by people working for the company since the outset. This continuity, along with a dedicated team of experts with Mészáros László at the helm, has assisted Disznókő in forging a new style of Tokaj wines renowned for their precise structure and typified by their purity of fruit, the freshness of the grape varieties and the complexity of the Botrytis. From hand-picking to individual vinification of all the lots, meticulous attention to all aspects is key to producing these fine wines. One guest expressed a common feeling thus: “the wines reflect the distinctiveness of the various vintages as well as the high standard of professionalism”.
